Donate to BASE Camp Scholarship Fund

We are offering full scholarships to families who would qualify for D97’s Free or Reduced Lunch program or are experiencing significant financial hardship. Please read about our FULL SCHOLARSHIP opportunities. FULL Scholarships are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

FULL Scholarships

To be eligible for a FULL scholarship, children must:

  • Attend an Oak Park District 97 school, AND
  • Qualify for free or reduced lunch (please save your qualifying letter so you can upload for easy approval!) OR
  • Experienced significant hardship recently. 

FULL Scholarship Award Information

  • Parents/guardians will be responsible for paying a $10 administrative fee for each one-week/half-day camp, or a maximum of $40 for the equivalent of four half-day camps (or two weeks of full-day camp).
  • Extended Day Camp scholarships can be added to extend the camp day from 3 to 6 pm, with parents/guardians responsible for paying $5 toward each add-on session.
  • Scholarships for each child are limited to two weeks of full-day camp or four weeks of half-day camp, or any equivalent.
  • The REACH Sailing Camp will be considered the equivalent of a full-day, 2-week camp scholarship.
  • The maximum scholarship award per child is $850, which includes camp fees and extended camp.

Application Process 

  • Scholarship families who pre-qualify in advance can REGISTER EARLY and get first shot at a limited number of camp spots. EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION opens on JANUARY 31, 2022, so mark your calendars now. 
  • If you want to receive a special code for early bird registration, you must pre-register between Jan. 20 and Jan. 27, 2022. (Save this page for more details!). During this week, you will be able to create a BASE Camp registration account (or update your existing account) and add each child.
  • On the camp selection page, look for the Scholarship Application section at the top of the page.  Click “Add to List” –  this automatically starts your scholarship eligibility review. On this page you will also be able to upload your FREE/REDUCED lunch qualification letter to speed up approval.
  • On registration day, select the 4 half-day camps (or equivalent) you would like for your child/children, as well as any add-ons needed (early drop off or extended camp). NOTE: Some camps may appear as full, but still have scholarship spaces available. Select the waitlist option for a camp if it’s your first choice, and we’ll get back to you regarding scholarship slots for that camp.
  • Complete the rest of the registration forms for each child.
  • Do not pay any amount until you have been notified about the status of your application.  At check-out, choose “Scholarship Application” as the payment option (total due will be $0 while scholarship is reviewed).
  • Your application will be reviewed within 7-10 days and you will receive an email regarding the status of your award and instructions on how to pay to reserve the scholarship camp seats.
  • Scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We highly recommend registering on the day registration opens as spots fill quickly.

Payment Information:

  • If approved, the camp prices will be adjusted to the scholarship levels.  The maximum amount due for scholarship families per child is $40 towards camp, plus $20 towards add-on extended day options, if needed.
  • Pay online through the registration system, or via cash or check at the D97 Administration building at 260 Madison Street on weekdays between 8:30-4:30.  Ask for the Oak Park Education Foundation at the front desk.
  • Payment plans are available.  To arrange please contact our staff at basecamp@opef.org.
  • Payment (or the first payment plan installment) MUST be made within one week of the scholarship award email to reserve your child’s scholarship and camp seats.  After 7 days, the camp seats will be released and offered to the next child in line for a scholarship.

PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

We’re excited to introduce a new PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM!

To be eligible for a partial scholarship, families must:

  • Attend an Oak Park District 97 school, AND
  • Have an annual income above the reduced lunch qualifying maximum, and within the income range listed on the chart below according to family size.
  • Consideration will also be made for families experiencing a financial hardship (such as one resulting from medical illness or a recent job loss).

*This range begins above the maximum income required to qualify for reduced lunch through Oak Park District 97 and up to 250% of the federal poverty level.

Partial Scholarship Award Information:

  • Families who qualify are eligible for a 50 percent camp scholarship with a maximum award of $350 (for grades 1-2) or $400 (for grades 3-8) per child.
  • Scholarships for each child are limited to two weeks of full-day camp or four weeks of half-day camp, or any equivalent. Additional camps will be charged at full price.
  • Extended Camp will be charged at full price.
  • The REACH Sailing Camp will be considered the equivalent of a full-day, 2-week camp scholarship.
  • Partial scholarships will be awarded to families demonstrating the greatest need.

 

Payment Information:

  • A $50 deposit per camp is required at the time of registration. Then camp prices will be adjusted to the scholarship levels to reduce final amount owed.  The final amount can be paid in two additional installments.
  • Payment online through the registration system is preferred. To make a payment of cash or check, or to set up an alternate payment plan, please contact the summer director at basecamp@opef.org.
