We have some special guest bloggers this month as Ms. Nelson’s third graders (Longfellow) have agreed to share their thoughts on the Geared Up program with us. Geared Up is an excellent introduction to engineering, using LEGOs. The program was first proposed by Gretchen Junker during our last Call for Ideas. Ms. Junker currently serves as the Program Coordinator, and a VEX Robotics Coach. Stay tuned for more posts from Ms. Nelson’s students, and catch up on those you missed here.

LEGO workshops are amazing! It’s like being able to build at your house and still get to use instructions for it. I barely got two pulleys done because we were tight on time. My fingers were going so fast that they were flying as fast as birds during migration season.
Pulley #1
It’s easy to lift this because all you have to do is lift your arm. I could have had someone hold it while they were sleeping.
Pulley #2
When you pull one side down it takes all the rope and it yanks the load up just like someone pulling a heavy load (not that anyone will need to do that after they heard about levers last week.) Simple machines definitely make doing work easier!
