yurt 2015 (2)

Irving 3rd graders explored their inner nomad with Science Alliance visiting scientist Craig Hendee from the Middle Eastern Falcon Research Group — by building a yurt!! As 3rd grade teacher Mr. Baker said, “[It was] a perfect activity that encompasses culture, engineering, team building, and science.”

This residency had three goals: teach students about conservation efforts for repopulating an endangered species; teach students about birds of prey (raptors – specifically falcons); and expose the kids to other cultures — in a hands-on way.
