What do you get when you combine architectural diversity and a community of educated, generous people? Magic!
As a part of the OPEF Architecture Adventure program, 8 expert volunteers from 6 different organizations (plus parent chaperones) guided all Irving 5th graders on a walking tour of Oak Park.
The students are learning about some common local house styles, and will build their own houses after the tour. What better way to understand houses than a field trip? The architects, docents, and structural engineer pointed out common features of each style, along with other tidbits of information. The group even got a tour inside a Frank Lloyd Wright house along the way — a treat for the adults and kids alike.
