Dr. Helena Palka-Hamblin, Cell and Molecular Biologist from the University of Illinois Chicago, visited Mr. Sakellaris’ class at Irving to teach microbiology. These smiley students learned so many things, including how to operate a microscope, different types and functions of cells, how to conduct an experiment, and how to isolate DNA from a strawberry!
Dr. Palka-Hamblin was assisted by her husband, Pat Hamblin, who is an Environmental Engineer at the Environmental Protection Agency. In future visits, he will teach them all about the water cycle, the porosity of different soil, and how pollution can impact wells and surface water. Thank you to our Science Alliance scientists!
