Julian Team Serious Black voyaged up to Appleton, WI on Saturday, February 16. They came home as the middle school VEX champions of the Upper Midwest by clinching first place along with their alliance partners, the Appleton Circuit Breakers. Serious Black was the only undefeated team in the middle school division. They impressed the judges with the paper prototype model, journal, and some theatrics and won the prestigious Build Award because of the team’s dedication to learning from all of their mistakes and always moving forward.
They found that established teams like St. Mary’s from Neenah, Wisconsin are well aware of the Oak Park Middle School teams from two finals alliances at other tournaments last year and this year.
Next up: Serious Black joins the Terminators from Brooks in heading for the VEX Robotics Middle School Championship March 7-9 in Omaha.
