Ms. Djikas’ second graders at Longfellow participated in a “culinary arts” project with Ashley and Kris Nelson from Constructive Chaos in River Forest. During their final Art Start session, they studied Renaissance artist Arcimboldo, who created whimsical portraits composed of fruits, vegetables, fish, and trees. Using flowers, grains, leaves, and other natural “ingredients,” the students created their own masterpieces.
