The Oak Park Education Foundation (OPEF) has hired Lindsay Bruce as program coordinator for BASE Camp, where she’ll join Jenny Roen as co-leader. The very successful program has just completed its 6th year, delivering 25 camps this summer and serving nearly 650 Oak Park area kids with over 1,100 camp sessions.
“I’m so enthusiastic about the experiential learning happening at BASE Camp. Coming from the higher education landscape, I can say with absolute certainty that the Oak Park Education Foundation promotes the engaged, problem-solving approach to learning essential for success in school, college, and beyond,” said Lindsay.
A native of Oak Park, Lindsay is thrilled to return to her hometown after 10 years of working in Boston. Lindsay’s background in higher education administration has prepared her well to support BASE Camp’s growing programs. After completing her bachelor’s degree at Tufts University, Lindsay worked in college and high school admissions, eager to connect families with the right educational environments for their children. Lindsay earned her master’s degree at Harvard, where she studied access and success in education, higher education management and student development. She has worked extensively to increase college success rates for underrepresented groups, partnering with universities in Boston to raise awareness, resources, and enhance support systems for at-risk students. Most recently, she ran the Student Success Center at University of Massachusetts Boston, working to increase graduation rates of STEM students through learning communities, academic support, and peer mentoring.
“We are really excited to add Lindsay to our BASE Camp team,” said OPEF executive director Deb Abrahamson. “There is so much demand in our community for innovative, hands-on learning during the summer and on days off from school, and she is just the person to help us meet the demand.”
Lindsay will be collaborating with OPEF staff, teachers, parents and students to deliver the highest quality BASE Camp programming to challenge and delight all who participate. She lives in Oak Park with her husband and two children (future BASE Campers!).
