Last week, staff from the JH Science Academy in Korea visited both Julian and Brooks Middle School to see how OPEF uses VEX Robotics to increase STEM hands-on learning. The guests first visited Tim Walsh’s Design and Robotics classes at Julian to observe classes that OPEF helped bring to the D97 middle schools. The group then headed to Brooks Middle School to observe Brian Shinners’ Design class and check out the mechanized prop that the Brooks OPEF VEX Robotics students have designed for the upcoming BRAVO production of “Mary Poppins.” JH Science Academy Chair, Jong-Chun Woo, even rolled up his sleeves and pitched in with some construction work on the “magic” table.
It was an amazing day for adults and students alike! The two programs plan to stay connected to share ideas and increase our students’ global connections.
