Fall is here and poetry is in the air. Seventh grade students in Ms. Stringham’s Language Arts classes at Brooks received the first Spoken Word residency of the year.
Spoken Word artist Christian Robinson (also known as rapper Rich Robbins) met with classes throughout the week and helped students explore the rich tradition of poetry, word play, and poetry slams, while finding their own voice.
All students wrote and performed original poems. Three or four students per class were chosen to participate in the school-wide poetry slam taking place in December.
This school year, the spoken word residency program is expanding to include both sixth and seventh grade language arts students.
