As Holmes third grade teacher Ms. Turi told us, “For the past 3 years, I have included a writing component to the students’ final project of creating and building an original simple machine. I am always trying to incorporate writing in all subject areas and this persuasive piece is always of great interest to the students.The students wrote ideas on a graphic organizer and drew sketches of a (compound) simple machine in groups. The persuasive writing piece had to include how their simple machine makes work easier and a description.The students worked well together and when they tested their simple machine, they had to include an oral explanation. It was FUN!!”
