Eight OPEF VEX Robotics teams recently participated in their first regional competition of the season in the Wildstang VEX Robotics Competition in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. Four robots from each of our middle schools were chosen to participate. This is the largest number of teams OPEF has ever sent to compete in the Wildstang Competition!
This day-long event drew middle school and high school teams from Illinois and Wisconsin. For the first time, one of our teams–Brooks’ Troll Bots–placed 8th going into the Elimination Rounds and was an alliance captain. Julian’s Serious Black was also selected to participate in the final rounds. Both teams made it to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by some tough competition.
This event allowed the teams to test their robots under the stress of competition and see how well their current design works. It also allowed the students to see what other teams have designed. The students will use this information to refine and improve their robots for the next competition–the OPEF Battle of the Bots on Saturday, February 1!
