Whittier 2nd graders were already studying “healing artwork” with their Art Start artist, Guillermo Delgado, when the Boston Marathon bombings happened on April 15. The class, with teachers Sondra Nelson and Kerri Druckmiller, decided to create their tin Milagros as a tribute to all the people affected by the violence. Their art installation includes hand-shaped running shoes, hands, and hearts, now on display in the storefront of The Competitive Foot, 102 N. Marion Street in Oak Park. Thank you to the store’s owner, Tim Eggert, and The Competitive Foot!
UPDATE: Make sure to check out this Wednesday Journal article about the project.
